The State We're In

27 Jan 2023

The top take-aways from the January briefing from the national Citizens Advice database were that they:

  • helped over 200,000 people with crisis support — like food bank referrals or emergency charitable grants - 50% higher than in 2021
  • helped 27,521 people who couldn’t afford to top up their prepayment meters — that’s 3 times more than in 2021
  • helped more people with homelessness-related issues this year than in any other year since 2016
  • big increase in the number of people we’ve helped for the first time with crisis support and a 38% increase in people needing this support who are working

These figures, and especially the increases on 2021, represent a damming indictment of the government. They are so busy trying to defend themselves from fresh relevations of sleeze, incompetence and corruption that they have simply forgotten to care.
