Community Action Team Meeting Minutes - 1 September 2025

Held at Bramcote Memorial Hall, Church Street, Bramcote

  1. Apologies for Absence

Apologies for Absence were received.

  1. Minutes of previous CAT Meetings

Minutes of the previous Bramcote CAT meeting were submitted and approved.

3.               MATTERS ARISING

                3.1Coventry Lane

The developers are only required to install new traffic lights on Coventry Lane before the first property in the old school field development is occupied. The council had provided incorrect information to the last meeting.

3.2 Baulk Lane

A resident told the committee there was broken glass on Baulk Lane. Cllr Andy Kingdon is following this up

4.                POLICY MATTERS

                 4.1        Bramcote Leisure Centre Rebuild

New plans are awaited for the proposed rebuild of the leisure centre and these are expected imminently.

                 4.2         Scout Hut

Contributions were being received to replace the existing kitchen at the Scout Hut.

                 4.3         Policing

There had been two new policing operations arising since the previous Bramcote CAT meeting in May 2025. Both were drugs-related and involved youngsters on the streets.

Notts police recently gave a talk on policing within Nottinghamshire to Bramcote residents, where residents were advised that where anti-social behaviour was involved e.g. speeding along the A52-By-Pass), the police would like to be told.

In response to questions, Cllr Watts informed people at this meeting that although there had been no increase in the use of drugs a the moment, a resident had recently reported a cannabis-grow found in Bramcote to him. He had passed the information to the police and the property had been raided..

                 4.4         Thoresby Road Parking

Reports had been received of residents parking along the grass verges on Thoresby Road instead of on their drives. Police have been asked to patrol across the road from the school to provide a deterrent. The police advised that parking enforcement was primarily a matter for the local council.

5.             SCHOOLS

5.1         Bramcote College - Moor Lane

Residents were advised that the redevelopment of Bramcote College was due to start before the middle of October 2025. Hopefully the old buildings will all be demolished by the end of October 2027.

The Bramcote College re-development will mostly affect parents who do drop-offs on Moor Lane, and it will not be safe to do so. Yellow lines will be installed on Moor Lane for the duration of the work.

                5.2        Foxwood School

Cllr Watts informed the meeting that pre-application plans had been received for Foxwood School. The school will be built in an X-shape and will include a café, open to park users, that will be staffed by pupils from the older years. Elsewhere there could be, if all goes ahead, provision for older pupils to stay overnight.

6.   Merging of Broxtowe Borough Council with Notttingham City Council (LGR)

Residents expressed concern about proposals for Local Government Reform (LGA). Some people attending this meeting wanted more information about the proposals — provided below:

Broxtowe (Broxtowe Borough Council) does not appear keen on either of the options being put forward about the government's re-drawing of its boundaries. A resident suggested that things should be left as they are, on an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" basis.

Views were expressed at this meeting about the proposed merging, and some suggestions were put forward with regard to asking the opinion of local people.

A resident asked if central government could do anything to oppose any merging. Cllr David Watts said, if required, any appeal could be made via himself.

  New Housing along A52 By-Pass

The planning application for housing along the edge of the A52 By-Pass (Brian Clough Way) is now available. It was noted that the number of houses had increased from 700 to 850.

The Leader of Broxtowe Borough Council has come out in support of this despite previously promising to oppose it.

Cllr Watts stressed that affected residents should submit their planning objections in good time.

8.           Care Home on Hillside Road

A planning application to convert a house into a childrens home for three young people on Hillside Road has been received. Cllr Watts encouraged residents to be opene minded about this and not to condemn the children who will have complex needs, just because they are in care.

9.          Japanese Knotweed (top of Sandy Lane)

Cllr Watts said there was nothing more to report at the moment on the highly invasive Japanese Knotweed seen at the top of Sandy Lane.

10. Coventry Lane Building Development

The Coventry Lane planning application has been sold to Miller Homes.

Cllr Carr had been told that nothing would happen other than initial land and drainage/flood relief, so there hag been no visible disturbance to date.

11. Proposal for installation of defibrillator in Bramcote village

A discussion was held about the need for a map or signposting showing defibrillators locally.

12. Fly Tipping

Concern was expressed about fly tipping on Coventry Lane which Cllr Watts said that he had reported to the council.

The meeting finished at 8.30pm
