Lee Anderson Comments "Disgusting"

Reacting to Lee Anderson MP’s comments that he would support the return of the death penalty because “no one who has been executed ever committed a further offence” Notts Lib Dem Crime and Policing spokesperson Cllr David Watts said:

“Anderson’s comments are truly disgusting. The civilised world has turned its back on the death penalty because it doesn’t deter crime. Maybe he should read about cases like Derek Bentley, where his conviction was overturned after he’d already been hung. How many miscarriages like that is Anderson willing to tolerate? The people of Ashfield must be deeply embarrassed to have him as their MP, and the fact that Rishi Sunak chose this week to make him deputy chair of the Conservative Party says all that you need to know about the current Tories.”
