Minutes of the Bramcote CAT Meeting Monday 2nd June 2025

  1. Minutes of the last Meeting

These were approved with amendments

2. Matters arising

Councillor Watts informed the meeting that he had been wrongly informed by the planning department at the council about the plans for work on Coventry Lane so what he told the last meeting was incorrect. Traffic lights do not need to be installed on Coventry Lane until the first house is to be occupied on the development on the old school field.

Cllr Kingdom advised the meeting that a donation of £5000 had been made by the local charities that the councillors were the trustees of to Bramcote Scouts to pay for new toilets for people with disabilities in the scout hut.

3. Police Matters

The police spoke about crime figures in Bramcote. They were also asked about problems with parking on Thoresby Road (this is now dealt with by the council) and speeding cars on the A52 late at night (there is a police operation to target these),

4. School Redevelopment

Paul Heery and James MacDonald from the White Hills Park Federation attended and gave a presentation on the latest steps in redeveloping the school site. It is hoped that building work on the new secondary school will commence soon. This will necessitate yellow lines being placed along one side of Moor Lane for the duration of the works as lorries will be coming out of these, They also spoke about plans which are now being developed to build a new campus for Foxwood School on the site of the old Park School. There will be a presentation in a few weeks that people will be invited to.

5. Local Government Reform.

A discussion was held about the options for local government reform. The government are insisting that all councils become unitary authorities which means that Broxtowe will either have to merge with the City Council or the County Council. There was a unanimous view amongst those who commented in the meeting that we did not want to be incorporated into Nottingham City.

6. Council election results
The County Council election results affecting Broxtowe resulted in Steve Carr from the Broxtowe Independents and John Doddy and Jan Gould from Reform being elected as the new County Councillors for the two divisions covering Bramcote. All were invited to attend this meeting. Cllr Carr and Cllr Gould had sent apologies and Borough Councillor Richard Macrae had attended to represent Cllr Carr. There had been no response from Cllr Doddy.

7. New housing scheme
The Broxtowe Alliance which run Broxtowe Borough Council appear to have been supporting plans by developers to build over 800 houses in green belt land partly in Bramcote, according to the comments that they gave to the local press. This was despite them promising in the council that they would be opposing this scheme and that they wanted to protect the green belt. Cllr Watts advised the meeting that the Bramcote Councillors were opposed to this scheme and would continue to fight it.

8. Bramcote Neighbourhood Forum

Paul Nathaniel gave a presentation as to the latest work by the Bramcote Neighbourhood Forum

9. Bramcote Leisure Centre

Cllr Watts read a report from the Borough Council as to the latest plans for the leisure centre redevelopment. The council seemed to think that substantial amendments could be made under building regulations but this would not in fact be permitted.

10. Proposed new care home

There has been a lot of scaremongering by some local people about a proposed new care home on Hillside Road. This will be for a small number of children and the staff looking after them. Cllr Watts urged people not to condemn children for simply being in care.

11. Local Nature Recovery Strategy

Cllr Watts drew the attention of the meeting to the County Councils consultation on their local nature recovery strategy and urged everyone to respond to it.

12. Japanese Knotweed
A planning application will shortly be considered by the borough council to build two houses on Bramcote Ridge. The applicants say that if these are permitted it will unlock funding to allow them to remove all the Japanese Knotweed in that area. The land is however a designated green area which presents a problem.

13. Bramcote Litter Pick

A litter pick has been organised to take place in Bramcote village in June and local residents are encouraged to take part.

There being no other business the meeting closed at 8.45pm
