Erewash amongst most polluted rivers

Figures released this week show that the River Erewash, which runs the length of Broxtowe, is the 11th most polluted rivers in the country. Four of the top eleven most polluted rivers are in the control of Severn Trent Water, a record they should be absolutely ashamed of. Broxtowe Lib Dem spokesperson David Watts said:

"The privatised water companies like Severn Trent pay out millions to shareholders and give their executives massive salaries and bonuses, yet at the same time they have been pumping pollution into our local rivers at greater rates than ever. This is an absolute record of failure. The fact that Ofwat allows this to happen shows that it is not fit for purpose. The Liberal Democrats are calling for a regulator with real teeth to force the water companies to take their responsibility to the environment seriously."
