Minutes of Community Action Team Meeting — 1 June 2026 Held at Bramcote Memorial Hall, Church Street, Bramcote, Lead of Meeting — Cllr David Watts
1. Apologies for Absence
Apologies for Absence were received
2. Minutes of Previous CAT Meeting
Minutes of the previous CAT meeting were submitted and approved, with a number of amendments to the minutes.
3. Matters Arising
a. Japanese Knotweed
Cllr David Watts said that this deep and invasive weed is being dealt with by the developers at Sandy Lane, Bramcote, with all necessary permissions now sorted.
The knotweed at Sandy Lane has been dealt with both in the City and in Broxtowe. An enquiry was raised about the outbreak on Baulk Lane and the councillors will make enquiries about this.
b. Flooding
Cllr Watts said that there has to be a scheme in place for a flood alleviation system at the Miller Homes development on the old school field, before the new-build houses are occupied. This winter and spring there had been a lot of flooding on Sloan Drive and Latimer Drive. This was something that the Bramcote councillors had warned about when the scheme came to the Planning Committee at the council. The county councils flood officer had been involved in ensuring that sandbags were provided during the flooding but Cllr Watts said that it was important that an effective scheme to prevent this reoccurring was in place.
C. Local Government Reform (LGR)
A note was made that there have now been so many responses to the governments proposals for local government reform that Central Government was certainly aware of the strength of feeling about the proposals and in particular that local people did not want to be placed into Nottingham City.
A comment was made (via Zoom) from a resident who said that he had written to the Secretary of State and, at the date of the meeting, he was still awaiting a response.
4. Bramcote College
The new Head Teacher will start on I st September 2026.
Update on Foxwood 2
Foxwood 2 will include a café.
Bramcote 2 and Bramcote College
Building work will start at Bramcote College on 27 July 2026. This work will include leveling the site.
The schools will be handed over by September 2028 (not 2027). This allows time for delays. The entire build project cost will be in the region of €66 million.
The Project Director has said that the access across the site will be closed for 5 weeks during summer 2026. Letters were due to go out to local residents updating them on the chronology that will be followed. There will need to be a traffic flow scheme for the site which may be in place for up to two years, with everything that needs to be taken care of included in it, such as lighting, parking, etc.
Access to the public paths over the build site will be subject to restrictions during term-time only, and temporary yellow-lining will need to be put in place along one side of Moor Lane.
A comment was made from within the meeting that it was only due to the residents of Bramcote "kicking up a stink" that the land was not sold to developers 12 years ago.
The plans for the schools are available at Broxtowe Borough Council's website at www.broxtowe.gov.uk.
5. Bramcote Leisure Centre
Plans for Bramcote Leisure Centre (BLC) are already over time and budget. The Council hope that the groundworks for a temporary car park on the school field are would start in July 2026.
6. Policing Matters
There had been a report of a burglary, in Bramcote which the police believe to have been a property deliberately targeted. Cllr Watts had been made aware of this by the police but they had asked him not to give any more details at this time.
7. Planning Applications
a. Coventry Lane
A new application has been received by the Borough Council for 105 houses that will lie in the Green Belt, at the north of Coventry Lane. Cllr Watts drew the meetings attention to the fact that he had a personal interest about this application as it was directly behind his house.
b. Beeston Fields Golf Club
There are plans to close the Golf Club in 'a couple of years'. The developers had applied to be exempted from providing an environmental impact assessment which the meeting viewed as being a very bad start to dealing with local residents.
C. Common Lane
The plan for a new estate on Common Lane is now up to 840 houses.
8. Operation Wheelspin (A52)
Cllr Watts will ask what is to be done with regard to bikes and cars racing along the A52 Brian Clough Way by-pass. A resident said that it would help if the A52 lay-by could be closed. It was understood that there were plans to hold a 'racers' meeting at the lay-by within the next few days and that these meetings were always bad news.Cllr Watts said that he would get in touch with the Highways Agency and put the idea to them that the A52 lay-by could be closed.
A comment was made about the possibility of applying a speed limit of. 50mph to the by-pass, such as that in place when entering the city of Derby.The by-pass is under governance of the National Highways Agency. The councillor for Toton had been looking into this as her ward was also affected by the problem and was trying to create a library of evidence (i.e. videoing the area needing more speed controls) so that a case could be built.
9. Eastcote Avenue
The road has been excavated to allow a new gas main to be laid, with comments made with regard to the fact that the road had recently been resurfaced. There were currently temporary traffic lights in place and it was hoped that they would be available removed soon. A comment was made that it was hoped that the excavations would not extend onto Deddington Lane which had recently been resurfaced.
10. Baulk Lane glass deposits
Nothing had been done to date to clear this but any progress would be reported on at the September CAT meeting?
11. Bramcote Neighborhood Forum
With regard to Local Government Reform, hopefully there will be something to report on by July 2026.
12. Bramcote Park Fire
A fire was deliberately started at 7pm last night, which was described as a 'small' fire, perhaps from a barbecue. If people are seen to be messing around with fire, residents are asked to call the Fire Brigade on 999.
13. Community Litter Pick
This event on Bramcote Park and in and around Bramcote village was very successful last year, and will be held thjs year on the last Saturday in June (27th).
14. Water Contamination
Since Miller Homes began to build on Coventry Lane, there has been water contamination of the brook behind houses on Latimer, Pimlico and Finsbury. with a response from the council of "We can't do anything about it" until the build is finished.
15. Bramcote Village Notice Board
Cllr Land said the Display Cabinet at the top of Church Street/Town Street would be updated as soon as possible. She said that one of the delays was due to no one knowing where the key to the cabinet was, and that this had held things up somewhat. This had now been resolved.
